UDHAMPUR: Police on Tuesday foiled bovine smuggling bids by rescuing 61 bovines and arresting 5 smugglers at Udhampur.    

Giving details Rajiv Pandey, SSP Udhampur said that parties of Police Station Udhampur led by Insp. Vijay Singh Choudhary SHO under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch Addl. SP Udhampur and Dr. Rohit Chadgal DySP Hqrs. Udhampur while patrolling on NH, intercepted 2 trucks (JK02AS 4911 and JK02AA 1547)  at Jakhani Naka and one Tata Mobile (JK14E  2412) near Sangoor Chowk area. During checking, 31 bovines were found loaded in all these vehicles which were rescued. The drivers of all the three vehicles were permitted to transport bovines but they misused the permission and loaded animals beyond the permitted limit.

The accused including Liaqat Mohammad, son of Noor Jamal, resident of Majalta; Mohammad Adrish, son of Makhan, resident of Majalta; Shakeel Ahmed, son of Mohammad Shafi, resident of Miran Sahib, Jammu; Mohammad Maqbool, son of Mohammad Bashir, resident of  Zero Morh, Talwara and Abdul Karim, son of Shattu, resident of Beli, Charana were arrested and cases were registered against them at Police Station Udhampur under relevant sections of law.

In another case, a team of Police Station Chenani led by Insp. Pushpinder Singh SHO under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch Addl. SP Udhampur and Ahmed Shaafi SDPO Chenani during Naka in the area signaled one truck (JK14 B 7099) to stop which was on its way from Basht to Chenani for checking. Instead of stopping the vehicle, its driver attempted to flee. The vehicle was chased by the police  and during search, 30 bovines were found loaded in it without any valid permission. All the bovine animals were rescued and vehicle was seized. In this connection, a case stand registered at Police Station Chenani and further investigation is going on.
