POONCH: On the occasion of ‘International Day of Older/ Elderly’, Indian Army joined hands with the students of various Govt schools, colleges and Youth Centres at Potha, Chhatral, Jhullas and Dharaba in Poonch district to celebrate the occasion.
The day is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the joys and challenges of ageing in today’s world.
The students also presented various cultural programmes to celebrate the day and also spread awareness on growing concern in Govt and social interest groups regarding the lack of opportunities of building healthy connections between youth and elders in our society. With increased mobility in jobs, shifting marital status and a wide range of choices in living arrangements, generations are often forced apart both in time and place and this makes it difficult to maintain connections between generations, such lack of connections can contribute to disrespect and possible mistreatment and neglect of older persons. The event at various schools and colleges was attended by students, teachers and Army personnel.
