LEH: Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas inaugurated Thanka exhibition on second day of Ladakh Festival 2019, at Chokang Vihara here on Monday.
On the occasion, Biswas inspected more than 70 different Thankas and appreciated Monks of Disket Monastery for exhibiting centuries-old preserved Thankas. He further added that Thankas exhibition is one of the major attractions of Ladakh festival to showcase cultural richness of the region to outside world. Locals can also enjoy the exhibition, which will be continue till tomorrow at Chokang Vihara Hall.
On the occasion, Monastic Dance (Chams) was presented by monks of Diskit Monastery in courtyard of Chokhang Vihara. A numbers of colorful mask dances were presented on the tune of traditional monastic instruments played by monks themselves. A numbers of tourist from different parts of the world also took part in the festival.
Later, Biswas also inspected photo exhibition showcasing pictures of more than 200 species of birds in Ladakh, organised by the Wildlife Conservation & Birds Club of Ladakh (WCBCL). He appreciated hard work of photographers and their contributions for the festival.
Biswas along with other guests also visited Handicraft, Handloom and Food stalls at eco-park and enjoyed local foods.
While interacting with self-help groups, he enquired about prices of local products and encouraged them to ensure better quality and improved presentation of products. A good number of foreign and domestic tourists witnessed both the exhibitions.
