JAMMU: Home Guards on Wednesday held a protest outside Press Club Jammu demanding policy on the pattern of other states for extending benefits to the Home Guards of J and K.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Association, Kamla Sharma said that during emergencies like floods, Home Guards are being put to action by deploying them to sensitive places for performing their duties, which they perform effectively and devotedly without caring for their lives.
Expressing her grave concern over the attitude of the previous as well as present government for ignoring Home Guards and depriving them of their legitimate rights, Kamla said that police personnel are enjoying hand some salaries and have been assigned smooth duties while as Home Guards who are being deployed in sensitive areas during emergencies are being paid Rs 545 monthly which is clear violation of Human Rights.
She said that time and again representations and requests have been made to the government as well as the concerned authorities for mitigating the sufferings of these Home Guards but it is unfortunate the government has totally ignored and deprived them.
Others spoke on the occasion were Gopal, Dass, Krishan Lal, Navjot Singh, Pawan Kumari, Darshana Devi, Bilal Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad and Gh Ahmad.
