ANANTNAG: A Dangal (Wrestling competition) was organised by IRP-17 Bn under the direct supervision of Commandant IRP-17th SSP Benam Tosh at Mattan, Anantnag in which top wrestlers participated and exhibited wrestling skills. Famous wrestlers of J&K, who have represented J&K at national level, also took part in the Dangal.
The main attraction of Dangal was a bout between renowned wrestlers of J&K namely Sukhdev Magotra of Jarnmu and Gulshan Singh of Rajouri which lasted for 30 minutes and resulted in a tie.
Another bout between Rashpaul Singh of Reasi and Mudasir Ahmed of Doda also remained interesting that lasted for 27 minutes in which Rashpaul Singh was declared as the winner.
The objective of the event was to promote physical fitness as impressed upon by ADGP Armed J&K A.K Choudhary and IGP AP/IR Kashmir SA. Watali from time to time, to encourage competitive spirit and to inspire the jawans of J&K Police with respect to traditional sports. On the occasion, Commandant IRP-17th Bn SSP Benam Tosh said that wrestling is the only Indian game which has survived through the ages and was started in India nearly five thousand years ago in Dwaper Age.
He further claimed that IRP-I7th is the only Battalion in J&K in which all top wrestlers of J&K including “Rustom-e-Jammu and Kashmir” Benia Min Pahalwan, who has also participated in international Dangals, stand posted.
Senior Officers of IRP and CRPF witnessed the Dangal and gave away rewards / trophies to the winner Pahalwans.
