JAMMU: Accusing Modi Government for misleading the nation by issuing baseless slogans, the Chief Patron of J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Prof Bhim Singh sought immediate intervention of the President, Ram Nath Kovind for restoration of statehood of Jammu & Kashmir, as same is must for restoration of normalcy in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir, founded in 1846 by Maharaja Gulab Singh. In a press statement issued on Saturday, Prof Singh said, “It was sad rather unfortunate that Jammu & Kashmir was demolished by the Parliament of India, on resolution of BJP, on August 5, 2019. It happened for the first time a full-fledge State, Jammu & Kashmir was reduced to a Union Territory without any reason or justification. Now, with what face BJP is demanding return of Gilgit, Baltistan as well as PoK into a Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.”
Prof Singh further said, “Pakistan has given statehood to Gilgit & Baltistan, though artificial and illegal, yet the Government in Delhi has to justify the conversion of State of Jammu & Kashmir into a Union Territory. What is the justification in National as well as International Law for a State, presently under the illegal occupation of Pakistan, say Gilgit-Baltistan, to merge it in a Union Territory only.”
Reminding Prime Minister about two important get-togethers of representatives of Gilgit-Baltistan, PoK and Jammu & Kashmir, which were organised in New Delhi in 2005 and 2007, Prof Singh alleged that present Government is trying to exploit people on the issues which need to be resolved jointly by representatives of Gilgit-Baltistan, PoK and Jammu & Kashmir (including Ladakh).
Bhim reminded the rulers of Delhi of their recent blunder in respect of Jammu & Kashmir, when they converted the State of Jammu & Kashmir into a Union Territory, which lost its International status and legitimacy to claim State Territories, illegally under the occupation of Pakistan since 1947 (POK) and Gilgit-Baltistan since 1948.
Expressing concern on plight of J&K residents, including students and labourers, stranded in various parts of country due to nationwide lockdown imposed to contain spread of COVID-19, Prof Singh said, “Govt of India and J&K administration failed in totality to provide appropriate protection/ transportation to J&K residents, particularly from Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Reasi, Ramban, Jammu, Samba and other districts, for their safe return.”
Prof Singh further announced that an urgent convention of leaders from different secular, democratic political parties and NGOs, shall be convened in Delhi, when complete normalcy will be restored after passage of COVID-19.
