JAMMU: The Office of Jammu University Internal Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment (JUICCASH), University of Jammu organised an awareness seminar on ‘Prevention and Eradication of Sexual Harassment at Work Place’ here on Tuesday.
The seminar was organised to create awareness regarding recognition of sexual harassment behaviour and ways to deflect sexual harassers, legal mechanism to file complaints and matters connected therewith among female employees of non-gazetted cadre working in main campus of University of Jammu.
Chief Guest of the seminar, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar University of Jammu in her address, said that harassment of any kind is violation of women’s right to gender equality, life and liberty. It creates an insecure and hostile work environment, which discourages women’s participation in work, thereby adversely affecting their economic empowerment and goal of inclusive growth, he said.
Prof Neetu Andotra, Presiding Officer JUICCASH, gave an overview of status of sexual harassment at work place and highlighted working of JUICCASH. She said that there were allegations of sexual harassment against prominent personalities from various sectors like cinema, TV, media, advertising, music, etc.
Dr Savita Nayyar, Department of Law and Member JUICCASH, enlightened the participants regarding list of circumstances considered as sexual harassment, role and functioning of ICC & LCC, procedure for filing a complaint, steps in the complaint process, consequences of non-compliance, duties and obligations of employer etc.
The programme was coordinated by Rachna, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu. The seminar was attended by about 60 employees of the University including males and females.
