KATRA: The 27th meeting of Governing Council for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra was held at the Spiritual Growth Centre here on Thursday, in which a number of important decisions were taken for future growth of the institution as a ‘Centre of Excellence’.
The Governing Council comprehensively reviewed functioning of the Counseling Cell of Gurukul, which has been set up to guide students about various career options and available opportunities. The meeting while taking stock of to-date progress regarding various initiatives being taken for enhancing employability of students of the Gurukul, emphasised upon the need for imparting practical training and required skills to students in Vedic Mantras, Karam Kand, Jyotish, Vastu Shastra and other religious ceremonies and rituals, so that they can find adequate job opportunities after passing-out from the institution.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board, chaired the meeting which was attended by Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO; Prof Yugal Kishore Mishra; Prof Vishwamurti Shastri; Hem Kant Prashar, Chief Accounts Officer; Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy CEO Shrine Board and Administrator of Gurukul; Gopal Dass Sharma, Head Pujari Bhawan and Dr Dhananjay Mishra, Principal of the Gurukul.
The meeting also took stock of the functioning of the Smart Classes, which have been introduced in Gurukul and underscored the need for continuously enriching the content of teaching for maximising its benefits to students.
The GC also approved a proposal for organising Bharat Darshan tour for students of Shastri Part-III of Gurukul 2019-20 academic session, to various parts of the country.
Other matters that came up for discussion and review of the GC included to-date status regarding issuance of Shastri Degree in bilingual language i.e., Sanskrit and English by Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, with which the Gurukul is affiliated, daily schedule and academic time-table of Gurukul, Annual Report of the institution, Hostel manual for students, etc. The GC also discussed various modalities to link performance of faculty with the academic outcomes of students.
