KATRA: A sanitation drive under ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign was organised by GRP Katra in collaboration with Railway Department, head of Municipal Corporation , Auto/Taxi Unions and senior citizens in which SSP Railways Katra Ranjit Singh Sambyal led and supervised the officers / jawans in clearing the wasted material from office premises, police station, GRP Lines Katra and garbage from adjoining areas/roads/footpaths.
Similar drive has also been conducted by SDPOs GRP Katra/ Udhampur all SHOs/ In-Charge Police Posts of GRP Katra/ Udhampur at their respective complexes. All the officers and jawans participated with full enthusiasm and realise the dream of clean India. SSP visited SDPO office/ Police Station/GRP, Lines Katra and took stock of cleanliness and directed officers/jawans to keep their areas neat and clean thereby not only making it beautiful but healthy as well. SDPOs GRP Katra/Udhampur Bodh Raj and Surinder Singh Blouria, Dr. Jagdish Mehra CEO of Municipal Corporation, S.S Tyagi SSE, Railway Department and Jugal Sharma (SS) Railway Department participated in the said drive. Besides, SSP also assured that best efforts are being taken to provide the basic amenities to the Nafri deployed on track in the jurisdiction of GRP Katra. He reiterated further, that such drives will continue in future also.
DHARMARI: GDC Dharmari organises painting competition on the theme ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of nation.
Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma , Principal of the College, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Out of the total Participants three were adjudged outstanding with Rita Devi(Sem-I),Mohd Irshad(Sem-II) and Khalid Hussain(Sem-III) as first second and third respectively. Prof Ajay Sharma(EVS) and Prof Khalid Sajad Bohra( History) adjudged the competition.

KISHTWAR: Swachhta Hi Sewa seminar was organised at Govt. Polytechnic College Kishtwar. Students of 1st,3rd and 5th semester of Civil and Electrical Engineering participated in the programme and put up their views on the said topic while skits were also performed by the students.
Certificates were also distributed among the participants by the Chief Guest of the occasion. Lect. Rajesh Singh, Er. Vikas Sharma, Er. Arun Bhandari, Er. Syed Rubaiya and Er. Karishma Parihar, Er. SAMBA: The NCC and NSS units of Govt. Degree College Samba organized a symposium on ‘Truth and Non-Violence in Contemporary Society’ on the eve of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma. On the occasion ADC Samba Dr. Arun Manhas was the Chief Guest. Principal Dr. G.S. Rakwal while corroborating with the concerns of Dr. Manhas stressed upon value of humanity. The symposium ended with the declaration of results in which Priyanka stood first, Sanjeev bagged second prize, Mannat came third and Tajinder got the consolation prize. Vote of thanks was presented by Karan Maini.
RAJOURI: In order to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi on Cleanliness, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri working under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J, organized an awareness programme and debate at KVK campus. More than 75 students of higher classes participated in the programme. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Vikas Sharma, Sr. Scientist of RARS, Rajouri. Later, Dr. Arvind Kumar Ishar, Incharge, KVK addressed the students and enlightened them with the importance of cleanliness in development of a society in particular and nation as whole. Later, a debate competition was also organized in which student actively participated. Those who spoke during the programme were Dr. Deepak Kumar, Incharge RARS, Dr. Rajesh Kumar,Dr. Abhay Sinha. Programme ended with Vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Parul Gupta.
Meanwhile, To promote interest among students on social issues, army organised a debate competition on the topic ‘Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Modern Era’ at Govt Degree College, Thanamandi in Rajouri District.
Speakers put forth their views on the subject to a patient audience to include students, parents, teachers and opinion makers of Thanamandi and adjoining villages. Prizes were distributed to winners and runners-up students.
KATHUA: Students of Kartar Public School,Barnoti celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by holding a special assembly.
They recalled that Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were born on Second October. Students presented patriotic songs and speeches and paid floral tributes to the memory of the leaders. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the School Er. Nirmaljit Singh implored the students to cultivate the values of simplicity, humility, non violence and secular values that made Gandhi and Shastri famous all over the world.
Meanwhile, an intercollegiate symposium on ‘Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy-Seven Social Sins in Modern Era’ was organised by Govt. Degree College Kathua to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
Principal of the College Prof K.C. Badgal who was Chief Guest while Dr. Netar Singh Coordinator Gandhi Global Family Kathua was also present.
Students from GDC Bani, GDC Hiranagar, GDC for Women Kathua, GDC Mahanpur and GDC Kathua participated in the symposium. Skilva Mahotra from GCW Kathua , Himanshika Sharma from GDC Hiranagar, and Shabnam Malik from GDC Bani were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Jeevan Jyoti of GDC Kathua and Ruchika Verma of GDC Hiranagar got certificate of merit. Dr. ManoharLal, Prof Shuv Kumar and Prof Raj Kiran were jury members. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia and Prof Shikha. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Rakesh Singh .
On this occasion Prizes were also given to Mohit Choudhary, Manvi and Shivani of Red Ribbon Club who stood first, second and 3rd respectively in poster making competition on drug abuse held by Red Ribbon Club on 26th of September 2018. Prizes were also given to NSS Volunteers Tania, Priyanka, Pooja Sarmal , Parvaz Akhtar who stood first, second and third in slogan writing competition on Gandhian thoughts. Aditi Tickoo who got prize for best essay writing competition was also felicitated on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua working under the administrative control of SKUAST-Jammu and guidance of Dr. R.K. Arora Associate Director Extension (KVKs) SKUAST-J organised various activities under Swachhta Hi Sewa Hai programme in the premises of KVK as well as adopted villages of District Kathua. During the Swachta Pakhwada a series of activities like door to door meetings, awareness campaign regarding better sanitation practices, segregation of solid waste into non biodegradable and biodegradable waste, mobilize community to built compost pits.
Dr. Amrish Vaid Chief Scientist & Head KVK Kathua, Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat Scientist, Extension Education, Dr. Vishal Mahajan Scientist, Agroforestry, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist Entomology were the spokes persons . During the programme, a rally was carried out by students along with the staff members of KVK and school with a view of carrying the general awareness among the masses regarding the Swachhta Pakhwada. The programme was also attended by Satbir Singh and Sahil Sharma. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Sunita Gupta Headmaster Government Middle School Rajbagh Ward No. 10, Kathua.
